Where did all the Traditional Christian Music music go?
For many years many places in the U.S. had radio stations that played beautiful hymns and traditional Christian music. On many of those stations they have changed formats and that kind of music can no longer be heard. It is also increasingly less common to hear hymns sung in churches. It is important to help preserve and promote that style of Christian music.
Around 2005 I tried to find some internet radio stations that played traditional Christian music. I did many Google searches for “Hymns” and “Listen to Hymns”. The search results produced links to hundreds of websites listings the names of artists, names of CD’s for sale, short midi tunes, articles about hymns, lyrics, etc. but radio stations were not easily found. After much searching, I finally found the internet radio station called Hymns and Favorites. After a lot more searching, I found several other internet radio stations and since then, my wife and I have been enjoying them a lot. Many people have told me they miss hearing traditional Christian music and would like to hear it but don't know where to find it. I have been printing out lists of station names and have been sharing them with friends, but I found it is much more practical to post them on a website.
Most not-for-profit radio stations occasionally ask for donations to pay for their expenses. Radio networks and for profit stations typically play ads.
